Welcome to the Gift of the GAB! We are keen to hear your thoughts on what you would like to see in future editions – it’s your newsletter! This month in Grant Services Branch… We have made significant contributions to several important projects this month. This includes supporting approval processes currently underway to extend the Agency Collaborates Grant Opportunity Guidelines (GOGs). We are working with other program areas on a range of GOGs, including for NAIDOC 2026, Remote Community Laundries Project and First Nations Psychology Scholarships. The branch has been busy supporting major funding rounds for the Remote Australia Employment Service (RAES), Rangers Expansion Round 2 and the Grant Assessment Process (GAP) December 2025. The branch continues to lead on the Galambany Grant Administration Manual Refresh Project and on the Galambany Site Visit Project. Further meetings will occur with regions about site visits moving to a more engagement‑focused model. .

Submit your team’s good news story to: Commonly Used Terms in Grants Administration Let’s explain use of ‘program’ in a grants context In the CGRPs, the phrase ‘Grant Program or Grant Opportunity’ occurs a number of times. The term ‘grant opportunity’ is defined in the CGRPs as a specific grant round made available to potential grantees. The details of the Grant Opportunity are usually set out in a single GOG. However, the word ‘Grant Program’, is not defined in the CGRPs and must be interpreted in the context of a specific ‘Grant Opportunity’. A ‘Grant Program’ often refers to a longer-term strategy the Government is aiming to achieve through multiple years of funding. Variants to the term ‘Grant Program’ in the GOG template include: ‘sub-program’; ‘funding program’; high-level program’; ‘high-level grants program’. A ‘Grants Program’ typically includes multiple ‘Grant Opportunities’ to be released at different times, each with its own GOG. Together, these multiple ‘Grant Opportunities’ will aim to achieve the policy objectives of the broader ‘Grant Program’ which are linked to a PBS outcome or stated government objective. If all grant funding will be covered in a single ‘Grant Opportunity’ and GOG, the NIAA may refer to the relevant IAS Program as the high-level ‘Grant Program’ the ‘Grant Opportunity’ will contribute to. Information on the six ‘IAS Programs’ is provided in Appendix A to the standard NIAA GOG template. These programs provide a legislative basis for funding and are outlined in Items 35 to 39 of Part 4 of Schedule 1AB of the Financial Framework (Supplementary Powers) Regulations 1997.
